Home Prisoner Skiff Second Skiff Sail Barge

Second Skiff - Sometimes referred to as Luke's Skiff (merciless slaughter of all occupents being nine-tenths of the law in the Star Wars universe) or the Cargo Skiff (in the film script). This Skiff carried eight guards, who were all single handedly wiped out by Luke. The problem with this Skiff is that most of the guards are only seen from a distance in short action shots; so they are very tough to spot unless you go through the movie frame by frame. Another major source of confusion is the inconsistent number of guards seen on the Skiff in different shots. The optically-composited miniature model only has 7 guards on it (the unidentified, shirtless human guard is missing); but the live action Skiff has 8 guards. Many of the guards have no Expanded Universe identities assigned because people are barely aware that they even exist. Of course, this confusion is one of the primary reasons that I decided a website like this was necessary.

These characters are very tough to spot due to the fact that the scene is moving so fast and there are very few close-ups of any of them (Barada is the only Skiff Guard on the second skiff to get anything resembling a close-up). So here are several screenshots with each visible Skiff Guard labeled. This first shot is of the miniature model and, as mentioned before, the shirtless human guard is missing from that model; but he is visible in the following live action shots.

In the following shot, Yotts Oren is just barely visible behind the Mercenary Pilot and the Human Guard:

As soon as the Mercenary Pilot runs forward, Yotts Oren can be seen clearly:

A behind the scenes shot of the Second Skiff in front of a blue screen. This would have been shot in a studio on a different day than the location shots of the Skiff. Which would account for the inconsistent number of guards and what appears to be different, younger extras playing Gailid and the Mercenary Pilot.
